TLC: Transitions for Life and Careers

The Transitions for Life and Careers program at Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center provides students who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) with more options in the area of Career and Technical Education (CTE). The TLC program will team with the programs in the Construction Pathways to increase the CTE opportunities for students with disabilities. Pupils can be enrolled in the TLC program for three to five years. During that time, they will participate in at least three programs. Students will also take part in soft skills training where they will we will introduce and refine abilities that can increase their employment opportunities. Instruction in program areas is delivered with the intent of achieving a level of competency allowing for successful competitive employment. This is accomplished by involving “live-work experiences” to provide the students construction related training that simulates situations found in the real world work environment. Instructors will assist students in accessing services that facilitate transition to Post-Secondary life. Students who excel in this program may participate in a co-operative experience during their final year. During this process, they will engage in a job experience in the industry of their choice.
