Course Description

The fast-paced, ever-changing computer field can be approached from many different directions. Students in computer science classes at CWCTC will receive instructions in a variety of aspects and methods of dealing with computers, with the goal of giving them a well-rounded perspective that will allow them to obtain employment in the computer industry, or further their education at a post-secondary institution.

Skills Learned

Some of the skills and software a student will be learning are Computer Fundamentals, Microsoft Office, HTML, Web Design, Macromedia Studio MX, Java & JavaScript Programming, Visual Basic Programming, Database Management & SQL, C++ Programming and the Linux Operating System.

Related Occupations and Earnings

Related occupations include Programmer Analyst, Systems Analyst, Web Developer and Help Desk Support. Earnings range between $10-$22/hour.

Post-Secondary Opportunities:

Articulated credits can be earned toward an Associate’s Degree at Institutions such as Manor College and Westmoreland County Community College.
