Course Description

The primary goal of the Auto Collision Course is to develop students into productive knowledgeable citizens who are able to provide for themselves in a way that is beneficial to the community which they live. The Auto Collision program is a work at your own pace program open to all students in grades 9-12, and designed for students who are definitely interested in employment in the auto collision field.

The student will be taught how to repair the body, frame, glass and upholstery of automobiles that have been damaged. This course emphasizes the development of hand skills as well as the theory necessary to succeed in body repair and refinishing. Practical work taught in the course will include metal straightening, gas and Mig welding, spray painting, paint mixing; computer based estimating, and polishing. The student who completes the auto collision course will be prepared to pursue a livelihood in this field because of the latest training techniques and related theory. The instruction provided will develop the skills and knowledge to allow the student to enter the trade as a knowledgeable apprentice.

Skills Learned

Some of the skills a student will be able to perform are preparation of surfaces, welding; brazing, metal work, Mig welding, metal straightening, assembly, spray painting, glass installation, computer based frame straightening, and computer based estimating.

Related Occupations and Earnings

Related occupations include Auto body Technicians, Painters and Detailers. Earnings range between $13-$22/hour.

Post-Secondary Opportunities:

Articulated credits can be earned toward an Associate’s Degree at Institutions such as Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology and Pennsylvania College of Technology.
