Course Description:

This ASE Accredited Automotive Program prepares students for a career as a certified professional automotive technician. Instruction provided by ASE Master Technicians will focus on fundamentals of safety, electricity, electronics, passenger comfort systems, engine repair, engine performance, vehicle emissions, steering, suspension, brakes, heating, air conditioning, automatic & manual transmissions. Critical thinking skills will be enhanced though the diagnosis and repair of current model vehicles and system training simulators. The multifaceted, student-centered curriculum features a mixture of interactive classroom, game-based e-learning, self-study, group projects, demonstrations, task practice, and mastery.

The Program of Study is based on the ASE Maintenance & Light Repair of vehicles. Higher level tasks are introduced as students’ progress. Only the latest high-tech tools, equipment, and techniques are used in this program. The foundation for success is the integration and application of Professionalism, Technical Skills and Technical Knowledge. Qualifying students may have the opportunity to participate in an ASE Education Foundation Mentored Internship at a local new car dealership or independent business. Additionally, our Cooperative Education Program provides a structured school-to-work opportunity for many senior students.

Certification and licensing opportunities include Pennsylvania Vehicle Safety and Emissions License, EPA 609 Refrigerant License, ASE Student Certification, Subaru Level 1 Certification, and SP2 Safety / Pollution Certificate. Post-secondary training is encouraged and available through public and private colleges Original Equipment Manufacturer OEM Training, manufacturer specific training programs, and independent organizations.

Realated Occupations and Earnings:

Related occupations include Automotive Technicians, Service Writer and Parts Counter Technician. Earnings range between $13-$24/hour.

Post-Secondary Opportunities:

Articulated credits can be earned toward an Associate’s Degree at Institutions such as Commonwealth Technical Institute, Johnson College and Pennsylvania College of Technology.
